UTICA, N.Y. -- A Utica police officer is placed on administrative leave after shooting a dog while executing a search warrant.
Officials say the Utica Police Department's SWAT team was investigating the sale of narcotics when a pitbull charged at them at a home on Howard Avenue.
Police say an officer fired and hit the dog, and the suspect was also struck by a fragment of the bullet and sustained a minor injury.
Investigators are interviewing people who were home at the time and working on figuring out the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Officials did recover drugs, but a complete search will not be able to be completed until after the scene is processed by evidence specialists.
