The number of new hires in the NYPD could be on the rise.
Appearing Sunday on John Catsimatidis' radio show, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton says he is confident about the department's budget and the possibility of adding more recruits.
"We are in negotiations with the mayor's office on numbers that I have proposed to them and they are reviewing those proposals. I'm optimistic that we will in face see an increase in the size of the department this year," Bratton said.
Mayor Bill de Blasio's original budget proposal for the year didn't include money for new officers.
This, despite a push by Bratton and the City Council.
An updated proposal is expected to be unveiled this month.
