Kids of all ages laced up and got on their marks yesterday for the New York Road Runners' Youth Jamboree.

About 2,000 kids from kindergarten to high school took to the track on Randall's Island .

The event featured individual races and relays - as well as a special 55-meter dash for pre-K kids.

One young runner we spoke with says he ran laps around the Central Park lake everyday to prepare for the race.

"I just want to run my fullest. This is the first time I've been here. I hope I can do my best at everything I can do. I trained for a long time. I hope it will all pay off," one runner said.

"I think its something for all of them to get together and be competitive, but to also have fun. I think its important for them to have fun as well," said one spectator.

"I feel like track gives them the opportunity to build a team or just be together," another person said.

The jamboree also featured a "Forever Young" invitational—which was a 100-meter dash for adults 75 and older.
