New York University will soon have a new leader.

The school has announced Andrew Hamilton as its 16th president.

NYU conducted an eight-month international search before making a decision.

Hamilton has been serving as vice chancellor at the University of Oxford in England since 2009. Before that, he worked at Yale.

NYU says Hamilton is a noted chemist, and that he'll continue teaching and conducting research during his presidency.

He's set to start in his new role in January.
