Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announce more than $9 million in grants for early childhood education programs here in the city.
The money will go to several community organizations in Brooklyn and Staten Island that work with children from low-income families.
Health screenings, nutritional and social services and other resources will be provided to kids as young as newborns.
According to Census data from 2010, Brooklyn has the most number of families with children under six years old.
The grants are awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
