A New York City woman died while hiking in the mountains of New Hampshire.

Searchers found the body of 32-year-old Kate Matrosova Monday between Mount Madison and Mount Adams. The area is part of a series of summits named after presidents and other prominent Americans.

Matrosova had gone hiking by herself after her husband dropped her off at the base of a mountain Sunday morning.

That afternoon, she activated her emergency locator beacon. Searchers had a hard time getting to her because of 100 mile an hour winds and subzero temperatures.

Searchers say it appears she died of exposure to the cold.
