City officers honored Brooklyn North Precinct Chief Gerald Nelson with a ceremonial retirement walkout Friday.

Fellow officers cheered on Chief Nelson at Brooklyn North Headquarters as he ended his 41 years as an officer.

He was sent off in a vintage housing patrol car to honor his start with the force.

Nelson began his career as a housing officer in 1973.

"He's beloved in many respects," said Police Commissioner William Bratton. "I know I will certainly miss him. I've always enjoyed my interaction with him over these last 13, 14 months and regret that at age 63, which is a very young age, he's going to have to because of the rules and regulations of the time that says he has to retire."

Nelson's retirement comes one day before his 63rd birthday, the mandatory retirement age for uniformed NYPD officers.
