October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month.

You may have heard of this condition after Bills player Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field after a play earlier this year and Bronny James, LeBron James’ son, collapsed while playing basketball.

Dr. Aditya Mangla, chief of cardiology at Jamaica Hospital, joins “News All Day” on Wellness Monday to talk more about this.

Dr. Mangla says that possible signs of cardiac arrest include having a family history, a fast heartbeat, a history of fainting, as well as chest burning, pain nausea, vomiting and sweating.

To help prevent a cardiac event, or any other heart issue, Mangla says it’s important not to smoke, see your general doctor for check-ups, get basic labs checked (blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, etc.), improve your diet, exercise, and influence others to do the same.
