New York City Transit is recognizing its more than 50,000 employees Tuesday as part of Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day.
The workforce includes nearly 13,000 bus operators, more than 3,600 train operators, 3,500 bus maintainers, 3,300 conductors, 2,200 station agents and more than 1,800 station cleaners.
NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow is traveling across the city to personally thank some of the employees, stopping at bus depots and transit hubs.
For those he cannot reach, NYC Transit is broadcasting special announcements throughout the day: “If you see a transit worker, join me in thanking them for everything they do to move New York.”
Crichlow joined “Mornings On 1” from the Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot in Harlem to mark the occasion.
