As the U.S. Open approaches, players are gearing up with pre-tournament events at Forest Hills.

On Tuesday, Stefanos Tsitsipas joined “Mornings On 1” to discuss the event, specifically a portion where players will engage in 10-minute matches against each other.

"It's an exciting concept of tennis that we don't get very often, and it's optimized around getting the most out of every single point, out of any performance that might be into the match. And what, what I've found throughout this whole process of playing the UTS is it makes things very exciting, and it brings a new, fresher perspective into the sport,” he said of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown.

Meanwhile, having recently returned from the Olympics and other global tournaments, Tsitsipas said he has been focusing on avoiding overexertion.

“Going into the 2024 season, I knew that this season is going to be very different in comparison to other seasons that I've had before, and I was already mentally prepared that I will have the Olympics. I'll have many events before the U.S. Open, and I will have to just physically, mentally prepare for long matches, change of surfaces as well, because we transition from clay to grass to clay again and now to the U.S. hard courts. So it's been not such an easy time of the year, but I was, for sure, mentally prepared,” he said.

Tsitsipas also shared his thoughts on the next generation of competitors, saying he is eager to see who will emerge on top given Roger Federer’s recent retirement.

“It's going to be very fierce,” he said. “I feel like a lot of us play great tennis these days. What I've talked about is that I do believe that a lot of us are going to do great big things in this sport, and it's not going to be anymore the top three that will be dominating.”

Fan Week, which began on Aug. 15, runs through Aug. 25. The U.S. Open officially starts on Aug. 26 and continues until Sept. 8.
