New York City Councilmen Shaun Abreu and Erik Bottcher found an unconventional route to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago after severe storms wreaked havoc on air travel.
With flights delayed or canceled at major airports due to the storms, many local lawmakers faced significant travel disruptions.
Among those who successfully departed were City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and state Assemblyman Kenny Burgos, who shared a photo of his family’s journey with the caption, “The youngest delegate is on his way to Chi Town to cast his vote.”
However, the travel woes continued throughout the day. Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson expressed frustration on social media, saying, “It is what it is but Delta you all need to do better! People are stuck at LaGuardia Airport in NYC.”
In response to the travel chaos, Abreu and Bottcher, alongside their friend Allen Roskoff, decided to turn their predicament into an opportunity.
Opting for a 12-hour road trip, they made their way to Chicago, providing a unique twist to their journey to the DNC.
