Congressman Adriano Espaillat on Friday hailed President Joe Biden's State of the Union address as "electric," expressing optimism about its historical significance.

"I think it will go down in history as one of the best State of the Unions," Espaillat, a Democrat whose district includes Washington Heights and Inwood, said during an appearance on “Mornings On 1.”

“He clearly said how he sees a future for America. Elections are about not just what you've done in the past, but really about the future, your vision for the future for the country,” he said. .

And when asked about recent polls that show former President Donald Trump leading Biden, Espaillat maintained confidence in Biden’s performance, which was outlined in the address Thursday.

"Jobs are being created at record numbers. Inflation is going steadily down. Unemployment is at a record low," he said. “He's proposing new tax codes that will even out the playing field … he will tax the very, very rich and give a break to teachers and firefighters.”

He also disregarded polls prior to the State of the Union address, stating that favorability in politics can change day by day.

“I would like to see those polls this morning. I think he did extremely well last night, and in politics, a week, a day is an eternity," he said. "I'm excited about this rematch. I think he knocked them out the first time and he's gonna knock him out again.”
