Queens City Council member Vickie Paladino appeared on “Mornings On 1” Friday to discuss her reelection, a victory she attributes to support from across party lines.
Paladino, a Republican, secured over 60% of the vote with more than 11,000 ballots cast in her favor, marking a decisive win in a rematch of the much narrower 2021 race against Democrat Tony Avella.
“When I got up and I thanked my Republican friends, my Democrat friends, my independent friends, I meant that because I could never have won the race without them. And we all come together on one issue, and that is what is going to make District 19 stay the way it is,” she said.
Paladino, who took office in January 2022 to represent Whitestone, Bay Terrace and Auburndale, said she "made it very clear all through '21 that I was going to be everybody's friend. It was going to be an open-door policy. And we were going to talk about issues that really bothered everybody.”
Addressing the challenge of achieving goals with only six Republicans in the 51-member City Council, Paladino stressed the importance of collaboration. “The most important thing is to once again come together for what's best for the city,” she said.
