Members of the New York Congressional delegation are trying to pressure the federal government to take a more active role in aiding the migrant situation in New York City.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, along with Congressmen Jamaal Bowman and Adriano Espaillat, sent a letter to U.S. Customs and Immigration to call on the agency to expand “support centers” in New York.

They want the centers to provide food, shelter and legal support to migrants.

The city is already home to five of what the agency calls "application support centers," which mainly help migrants with documentation processing. There are two in Queens and one each in Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn.

During an appearance Wednesday on “Mornings On 1,” Espaillat said they are urging the federal government to take on many of the responsibilities with migrants that city services have assumed. Progress has been slow so far, he said.
