All week long, nearly 200 heads of state, government leaders and top diplomates from around the world will be descending on Manhattan to discuss global issues at this year’s United Nations General Assembly.
Along with keeping traffic moving smoothly, the NYPD will be working around the clock with federal partners to secure the area around the UN Headquarters, as well as the entire city.
NYPD Chief of Intelligence Thomas Galati spoke with “Mornings On 1” anchor Pat Kiernan on Monday, saying the department spent a full year preparing for the event.
He noted that this year is also unique in that the NYPD and federal government can also study the United Kingdom’s security measures amid events for Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
