Another pandemic ridership record was set on the subway last week.
New numbers released by the MTA show that last Thursday, more than 2 million people rode the subway.
While still only a little more than a third of the pre-pandemic daily average of 5.5 million riders, MTA Chairman Pat Foye says it’s the highest since the pandemic began.
On "Mornings on 1," Foye said he's encouraged by the steady increases in ridership and that the MTA is ready for full 24/7 subway service again next week.
"Yeah, Sarah Feinberg and her team have been working on this for a long time,” said Foye, referring to the president of NYC Transit. “We think the transition on Monday, May 17, a week from today, will go smoothly. We're going to continue disinfecting and we expect that to be efficient and a seamless transition."
Foye said the best thing that riders can do to protect themselves is continue to wear a mask.
He said 98% of riders have been wearing face coverings.
