A new book sheds light on formerly incarcerated men who have transformed their lives behind bars and now help to transform the lives of others.

In "Breaking Out In Prison," photographer Babita Patel highlights the stories of 15 men who for various reasons — in many cases, tied to race and poverty and a lack of guidance — committed crimes and ended up in prison. And who also eventually found hope through education.

Quotes are threaded throughout the book alongside excerpts and photographs in an effort to see beyond the crimes these men have committed and the time they've served.

Babita Patel and Markey Coleman join Annika on Mornings On 1 to discuss criminal justice reform.
