NEW YORK - Dogs from around the world are making their way to New York this weekend for the 144th Westminster Dog Show.
There are 205 breeds competing in this year's competition.
The breeds are categorized into seven different groups - sporting, hound, working, terrier, toy, non-sporting, and herding.
And they're judged on several things including, general appearance, movement, temperament, and physical traits like height and weight, coat, and color.
Trainers say the dogs are familiar with the lights and sounds in the arena, so they know this show is a bit more special.
"They feed off of our excitement. They get a little more excited as they are very sensitive to our emotions. So if we’re really excited the dogs will get really excited too. So they really do get a little more up for it, just because of how we feel," said Kelly Rackley, a dog handler and owner.
The agility and obedience competitions take place this weekend, and “Best in Show” will be held at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.
