The NYPD is expanding its neighborhood policing goals with a new initiative aimed at preventing crimes committed by young people.
Police Commissioner Dermot Shea announced the youth crime prevention strategy at his State of the NYPD Address yesterday. The effort aims to reduce, and hopefully deter, the number of crimes committed by younger people before they occur.
Shea, alongside Deputy Commissioner Chauncey Parker, joined Mornings On 1 to discuss the initiative.
"If we get this right with the kids, the sky is the limit; if we get it wrong, we're going to be dealing with that too--in a negative way," said Shea.
The two also weighed in on Albany's bail reform law, the MTA's plan to recruit more officers and encouraged residents to get involved in community meetings.
