A lot of Manhattan's large office buildings have a public plaza attached to them, usually with tables, chairs, gardens, benches, and other features.
They offer a small reprieve from the busy atmosphere of the city.
These are what the city calls 'privately owned public spaces' or POPS.
Developers in dense areas of the city are offered incentives when they include public spaces in their designs.
The city's trying to make it easier for New Yorkers to identify these spaces, with a logo design contest.
The deadline to submit is March 15.
Edith Hsu-Chen, the Manhattan Director at the Department of City Planning, stopped by "Mornings On 1" to talk about the competition.
