1. Hochul: No congestion price surge on gridlock alert days
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Thursday there will be no surge on congestion pricing during gridlock alert days.
Hochul said in a statement that she is eliminating the 25% surcharge that would have been activated on the city’s 20 gridlock alert days.
2. Community gathers for vigil to honor woman burned to death on subway
Religious leaders and community members came together for a vigil Thursday night, honoring the woman who was burned to death at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue train station Sunday.
“Her life mattered, and we believe that we can do something and that anyone can participate, and that is the power of prayer,” Rev. Kevin McCall, founder of the Crisis Action Center, said.
3. New York to charge fossil fuel companies for damage from climate change under new law
Large fossil fuel companies would have to pay fees to help New York fight the effects of climate change under a bill signed Thursday by Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The new law requires companies responsible for substantial greenhouse gas emissions to pay into a state fund for infrastructure projects meant to repair or avoid future damage from climate change.
