1. Report: $115 billion needed to keep MTA running over five years

Next week, the MTA is expected to lay out what major investments it plans to make in the system over the next five years. Meanwhile, a new report estimates the money needed to really keep the trains, buses and other equipment in working condition would be over $100 billion. Transit reporter Samantha Liebman has more on what this report outlines and where the money is going to come from.

2. Ex-FDNY chiefs indicted on bribery charges

Two high-ranking FDNY chiefs were indicted Monday on bribery and corruption charges, accused of fast-tracking fire safety inspections in exchange for tens of thousands of dollars in payoffs. The alleged scheme began before Mayor Eric Adams took office, but the mayor nonetheless faced questions Monday about any possible links to City Hall.

3. Adams tries to push past ongoing controversies, calls for resignation

Mayor Adams announced a new report showing some of the successes of city agencies on Monday.

“This administration was voted into office with a clear message and a single message of delivering for New Yorkers,” Adams said.

And yet the announcement was quickly overshadowed by the ongoing controversies swirling around the administration. That includes Adam’s top lawyer Lisa Zornberg resigning suddenly late Saturday night.
