1. City Council forecasts billions in additional revenue, calls for rollback in mayor’s budget cuts

The city’s finances may be on the upswing, according to a new financial report from the City Council obtained by Spectrum News NY1. 

The report shows the city is expected to see a significant improvement in revenue compared to what the mayor’s office had originally anticipated. The report estimates $3.3 billion more in revenue for this fiscal year and the next one, which begins July 1.

2. Fans gather for Flaco the owl memorial in Central Park

Dozens flocked to Central Park to bid farewell to Flaco, the Eurasian eagle-owl. Birders, wildlife activists and Flaco fans gathered by his favorite oak tree on East Drive near the 102nd Street Crossing. Mourners left signs, letters and flowers while some made their own keepsakes to mark the occasion.

“I’m just gonna remember how [much of] an awesome, awesome presence he was,” said lifelong New Yorker Amelia Silver-Greenberg. 

3. Manhattan subway slashing now being investigated as hate crime

Police are now investigating a Friday night subway slashing as a hate crime.

A 27-year-old man was approached by a man not known to him, who made an anti-LGBTQ statement, according to the NYPD. The victim was then slashed with a box cutter on his left hand just after 11 p.m. Friday.
