In his weekly "Mondays with the Mayor" interview with "Inside City Hall" Anchor Errol Louis, Mayor Bill de Blasio addressed public safety concerns after two teenagers were killed in the Bronx over the weekend due to gun violence. Stressing the importance of taking illegal guns off the streets, he called on the federal government to aid the city in helping stop the flow of guns into the five boroughs.

The request for more federal assistance came as Eric Adams, the projected winner of the Democratic primary for mayor, attended a White House meeting Monday morning on decreasing gun violence in major cities across the country.

De Blasio also emphasized that his team of health advisors are closely monitoring the surge in cases of the COVID-19 delta variant across the country, while maintaining that the city plans to continue to require public school students remain masked while in classrooms come September.
