As the Justice Department seeks to dismiss Mayor Eric Adams’ corruption case, their memo Monday says the decision stems from the charges interfering with the mayor’s reelection bid, hurting his ability to carry out Trump’s immigration agenda in the city, rather than on any legal merit.

Bernarda Villalona, a longtime trial attorney and former Brooklyn assistant district attorney, joined Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” to discuss the legal precedent of the move.

“It’s highly unusual,” Villalona said of the DOJ dismissing a case for a reason other than the merit of the charges. “Usually when you’re dealing with DOJ involvement, or someone talking about dismissing a case, you usually deal with it before you even bring the case forward.”
