Queens State Assemblyman and mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani proposes building 200,000 new affordable homes over the next ten years, funded by the city rather than private developers.

Mamdani also wants to fast-track the approval process for any 100% affordable housing project and says the city’s capital investment in renovations of NYCHA housing should be doubled.

Mamdani, who represents all or parts of the neighborhoods Astoria and Ditmars-Steinway, joined Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to talk more about the plan and his campaign for mayor.

“What our proposal does, it is the first of any campaign to say the city has a responsibility in meeting the urgency of this crisis, and we’re going to do that by dramatically expanding the programs we already have,” Mamdani said. “This is an opportunity to put New Yorkers into housing they can actually afford, and to do it in a way that New Yorkers can hold us accountable on.”
