Election Day is less than three weeks away and voters should know about the six proposals on the back of the ballot.
Proposal one would add an Equal Rights Amendment to the State Constitution, while proposals two through six pertain specifically to the city and would alter the City Charter.
The proposals deal with everything from the powers of the Sanitation Department and the capital infrastructure planning process to the creation of a chief business diversity officer, among other things.
Advocates have argued that the five charter revisions were hastily made without proper public input, including the good government group Citizens Union.
Ben Weinberg, the director of public policy for Citizens Union, sat down with political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to break down the proposals and why the group is urging city voters to vote no on some of these ballot proposals.
“This is our city’s constitution, we need to treat it with respect,” Weinberg said. “We need to think about the changes we make in it, and we need to gather public input, and this wasn’t done.”
