Edward Caban has had the shortest tenure as police commissioner since Richard Condon in 1990, who served under former Mayor Ed Koch.

With his resignation, there will now be three different police commissioners running the NYPD since Mayor Eric Adams took office.

Keechant Sewell was the first commissioner, who resigned in June 2023.
