State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, who is also a superdelegate at this week's Democratic National Convention, said Kamala Harris’ campaign has shown “flawless execution.”
“The dynamism of her campaign, the flawless execution of the rollout and everything after that is only serving to make more and more people energized. And when she says she will accept the nomination tonight, I’m sure there will be, you know, just tears and applause and joy, which is the hallmark of her candidacy, anyway, and just the resolve that we’re going to make sure she’s going to make it to the White House,” she said during an interview on “Inside City Hall.”
As someone who made history to become the first woman and woman of color to lead the state Senate in 2019, Stewart-Cousins said understands the expectations.
“She’s got to be more qualified than almost everyone else, and she knows that. And she’s going to have to work harder than almost everyone else, and she knows that and she’s prepared for that. And in fact, I believe she’s built for that,” she said.
Before President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, a June Siena College poll found 29% of Black voters in New York state support Donald Trump.
Stewart-Cousins said she believes that will change with Harris’ nomination.
“I see a tremendous growth of enthusiasm. I see young people energized, volunteering in ways that maybe they weren’t even going to engage when President Biden was the nominee,” she said. “I could see that percentage narrowing in terms of Black voters.”
