Earlier this week, Arva Rice, the interim chair of the Civilian Complaint Review Board, officially announced her resignation.
The agency is tasked with overseeing the NYPD.
This caps off months of speculation about her role and her relationship with Mayor Eric Adams.
Back in April, Adams reportedly wanted Rice out after she criticized the NYPD’s delays in the investigation into the 2019 police killing of Kawaski Trawick.
Rice’s resignation will take effect on Aug. 15, but her departure raises questions about the agency’s independence and ability to conduct meaningful oversight of the city’s police department.
Reverend Fred Davie, who formerly chaired the agency from 2017 to 2022, joined NY1 political reporter Ayana Harry on “Inside City Hall” Friday to talk about the future of the CCRB.
