In the middle of a big election year, there’s a growing conversation on ways to fix what many call a broken electoral system.
One voting reform often proposed as a solution is ranked-choice voting, which allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference.
New York City adopted ranked-choice voting for local elections back in 2019, and it was used in the crowded race for mayor in 2021.
A new documentary called “Majority Rules” takes a closer look at the voting system, focusing on last year’s congressional election in Alaska, where the state also eliminated traditional party primaries.
AJ Schnack, the director, and Tim Dunn, the executive director of the nonprofit advocacy organization Unite NY, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to talk about the documentary and what comes next for election reform.
