The city says it has taken a major step toward reaching clean energy targets.

Mayor Eric Adams, alongside state and federal officials, announced the start of construction on the nation’s largest offshore wind hub at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal on Monday.

The project was first unveiled in 2021, when the city reached a deal with international energy company, Equinor, to redevelop the 73-acre site.

On the site, wind turbines will be built, maintained and shipped out.

And will then be established 15 miles off the southern shore of Long Island to generate renewable energy for New York.

It is supposed to help the state reach its goal of developing 9,000 megawatts of offshore wind by 2035 and bring more jobs to the city.

Maria Torres-Springer, the deputy mayor for housing, economic development and workforce, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday to discuss more.
