A new documentary details the rise and fall of the Industry City rezoning proposal is debuting at the Tribeca Film Festival Tuesday.
It traces to 2015 when the plan was first floated by a group of developers that owned the connected industrial buildings in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
They wanted to expand the campus by nine blocks and transform the space into hotels, academic space and retail shops.
But the community, which is mainly immigrants and working-class residents, came together to reject the proposal they feared would displace their families.
The documentary, "Emergent City," had unique access to private and public meetings between residents, lawmakers and the developers.
Kelly Anderson, one of the directors of the film, and Carlos Menchaca, a former councilmember who represented the neighborhood at the time of the proposal, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Monday to discuss the documentary.
