A new report from Citymeals on Wheels finds that nearly half of those surveyed have faced hunger in the past year.

According to the report, 41% of older New Yorkers are sometimes, or never, able to shop for groceries and 38% have limited ability to prepare food for themselves.

Older New Yorkers also face higher rates of poverty, with 65% of those surveyed living on less than $15,000 per year.

Citymeals on Wheels believes hunger among older adults can be eliminated by 2040.

The report recommends federal, state and city governments invest more in home-delivery meal programs and revitalize elderly community centers.

Beth Shapiro, the CEO of Citymeals on Wheels, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to break down more findings.
