The City Council and Adams administration held dueling meetings on Wednesday.
The Council was considering a bill that would expand its oversight powers over mayoral appointments.
Meanwhile, the mayor’s city Charter Revision Commission convened for the first time to talk about adding a proposal to the ballot in November.
Under the current city charter, a referendum and commission question cannot appear on the same ballot.
Councilmembers said the commission’s creation is just in retaliation for the Council’s bill. However, the Adams administration said that’s not the case.
Betsy Gotbaum, the executive director of the Citizens Union, a good government group, and also previously served as the public advocate, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to discuss more.
Gotbaum testified against the Council’s proposed legislation.
