Funeral services are underway after Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, along with the country’s foreign minister and other officials, were killed in a helicopter crash over the weekend.
The wreckage was found Monday, and Iran has said the crash resulted from a technical failure. The helicopter fell in mountainous terrain in the country’s northwest.
Raisi was a hardliner and viewed as a protégé of Supreme Leader Ayatolla Ali Khamenei.
Trita Parsi, the executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, a Washington, D.C. think tank, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday to talk more about what this means for the future of Iran and the region.
