A new report by Win and the Real Estate Board of New York outlines the many existing problems with the city’s housing voucher program.
While intended to mitigate homelessness and increase housing stability, New Yorkers find applying for and using the vouchers to be cumbersome and confusing.
The report highlights five of the major policy changes that need to be implemented in order to improve the voucher process.
It includes reducing delays, setting standards for applications, improving technology and preventing discrimination.
James Whelan, the president of REBNY, and former City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who serves as the president and CEO of the nonprofit Win, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to break down the report.
