Ramadan, the holy month for Muslims, is set to come to a close next week.

During this time, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

Many mosques, nonprofits and communities in the city have stepped up support for newly arrived Muslim asylum seekers from countries in North and West Africa.

They have been providing shelter and offering free meals, with some mosques even going into debt.

Advocates are now calling on the city and officials to do more to help the Muslim population of asylum seekers.

Salim Drammeh, the president of the Gambian Youth Organization, a nonprofit that aids low-income West and South Bronx residents with food, youth empowerment and immigration assistance, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to discuss more.

His organization raised more than $260,000 this month to provide Ramadan meals for migrants.
