This week, Mayor Eric Adams announced the city’s plans to pilot new weapon detecting technology in the transit system.
The administration said it’s an effort to make New Yorkers safer.
According to the mayor, the technology will be rolled out at a few stations in 90 days.
But some advocates are raising concerns over the pilot program, specifically the vendor behind the technology. They cite concerns over the accuracy of its machines, and a class-action lawsuit and a federal probe.
Albert Fox Cahn, the executive director and founder of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project, a civil rights and privacy group, joined NY1 political reporter Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Friday to discuss more.
