City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams held her annual State of the City address Wednesday.
The speaker was mostly optimistic about getting new programs accomplished in the year ahead.
She outlined goals such as transforming the Aqueduct Racetrack in her southeast Queens district, creating incentives for private development to accept housing vouchers, making the city’s free doula initiative permanent, expanding mental health courts and more.
But she also acknowledged tensions with Mayor Eric Adams.
The City Council is already at odds with the mayor over implementing a housing voucher expansion plan that was passed last year.
The speaker joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to discuss the address and more.
In her speech, she added the Mayor's Management Report, which give thousands of public data indicators of different agencies, is not enough.
"We really want to kind of take apart some agencies, and this is not necessarily all at once either," the speaker said, adding the council will choose certain agencies and will examine them. "Quite frankly, the public needs more transparency."
