The United States vetoed a United Nations resolution backed by Arab nations demanding an immediate humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza, arguing it would interfere with ongoing negotiations to free hostages abducted in Israel.

On the ground in Gaza, the humanitarian crisis for Palestinian civilians continues to worsen as Israel orders new evacuations from parts of Gaza.

Since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, health officials in Gaza say Israeli forces have killed more than 29,000 Palestinians and displaced more than 80% of the population.
