New York City saw a decline in shootings and murders in 2023 compared to the year before, according to data released by the NYPD last week.

The city saw a 24.7% drop in shootings citywide for the year, the data said.

The five boroughs also recorded decreases last year in five of the NYPD's seven "index crime" categories tracking overall crime, which include murder, rape, robbery, burglary and grand larceny, according to data.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Monday to discuss crime in the borough and more.
