Democrats are eyeing key Congressional districts to flip blue to regain control of the House of Representatives. They could get a boost from the Working Families Party in New York.
Two familiar progressive faces, Ana María Archila and Jasmine Gripper, were recently appointed co-executive directors to lead the influential third party in the state.
Archila and Gripper joined NY1 political reporter Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday to discuss more about the party.
Archila is also the co-founder of Make the Road New York and was the Working Families Party’s candidate for lieutenant governor last year. Gripper served as the executive director of Alliance for Quality Education.
“We need to make sure that the House is in the hands of Democrats so that we can protect our communities from the relentless attack of a potential Trump administration and also so we can protect our democracy,” Archila said.
The co-executive directors also weighed in on Mayor Eric Adams’ job performance and the recent budget cuts in the city.
“The migrants aren’t the reason for the budget cuts. Mayor Adams’ choices are the reason for these budget cuts, and we want to hold him accountable that we want a New York that works for everyday working-class New Yorkers and not just for the ultra-rich,” Gripper said.
Archila added to that saying, “the city is not in good hands. We have not decided what we will do in 2025. What we have decided is our commitment is always to working families.”
