There’s a stack of bills that currently awaits Gov. Kathy Hochul’s signature or her decision to veto the legislation.
One of those bills is the “Grieving Families Act,” which would allow families of wrongful death victims to receive compensation for the emotional harm they suffered.
Hochul vetoed the first iteration of the bill earlier this year over concerns about its effect on the state economy and health care system.
She is currently reviewing an updated version that would include a shorter statute of limitations and new restrictions on who qualifies as a victim’s close family member.
NYPD officer Mandy Fletcher joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Wednesday to talk about the bill.
Fletcher lost her infant son Maison more than six years ago and says it was the result of medical malpractice.
