On Thursday, a 7-year-old boy was killed on the way to school when he was struck by an NYPD tow truck driver in Brooklyn.

The driver, Stephanie Sharp, was charged with failure to yield to pedestrian or bicycle and failure to exercise due care.

The young victim was the 73rd pedestrian killed in a traffic collision this year, according to Transportation Alternatives.

This also comes as 2023 is on pace to become the deadliest year for cyclists since 1999.

Twenty-six New Yorkers have died riding a bike on city streets so far this year. In 2022, there were 18 deaths.

Danny Harris, executive director of Transportation Alternatives, joined NY1 political reporter Bobby Cuza Friday to discuss more.
