Earlier this week, hundreds of New Yorkers attended a virtual public hearing on a proposed rule that would soften the enforcement of Local Law 97, which requires large buildings to reduce carbon emissions.

One proposal gives building owners a two-year reprieve from fines if they submit a de-carbonization plan.

But advocates say the potential rule change allows building owners too much leeway, and they are calling for the law to be fully implemented.

Eric Weltman, a senior organizer for “Food & Water Watch,” a nonprofit group that advocates for safe food, clean water and a livable climate, and Manhattan Councilmember Christopher Marte joined NY1 political reporter Bobby Cuza on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to talk more about the city’s need to enforce the law.
