Advocates gathered on Friday, calling for the termination of the two officers involved in Kawaski Trawick's death in 2019.
Meanwhile, Mayor Eric Adams said he is open to meeting with Trawick's family as soon as the judicial process concludes.
This comes in the wake of a draft decision by the Rosemarie Maldonado, the NYPD deputy commissioner of trials, who recommended the officers involved in Trawick's killing not face disciplinary actions.
She said the city Civilian Complaint Review Board had taken too long to file misconduct charges and called for them to be dismissed.
It is ultimately up to Police Commissioner Edward Caban to impose any reprimand or discipline.
Arva Rice, the interim chair of the Civilian Complaint Review Board, joined host Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Monday night to talk more about the case.
“For the [Civilian Complaint Review Board], we really want to talk about the impact, the impact of the decision for the NYPD to hold the body-worn camera footage for so long,” Rice said. “The Trawick family is not receiving the justice they deserve.”
