The City Council Committee on Land Use voted Monday to back a new five-year operating permit for Madison Square Garden.
Some lawmakers say this leaves the door open for Madison Square Garden to potentially leave the location and make way for the redevelopment of Penn Station.
City Councilman Erik Bottcher, who represents the neighborhoods of Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen, Times Square and the Upper West Side, joined host Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday night to talk more about Madison Square Garden and Penn Station.
“How can we accommodate the rise in traffic that they are anticipating at Penn Station in the next 40 years?” Bottcher said. “Right now, the station itself can’t accommodate that many riders. So, the federal government, Amtrak and the railways are going to be evaluating several different options.”
