Earlier this month, a state court ruled that new congressional lines must be drawn ahead of 2024 by the New York State Independent Redistricting Commission.
This comes as control of the House of Representatives could run through New York, with Democrats vowing to target swing districts.
This ruling stems from a Democratic-led lawsuit challenging a map drawn by a court-appointed special master in 2022.
Democrats argued the maps from the midterms — which gave Republicans the advantage to take four seats in the House — were only ever meant to be temporary. And the court agreed.
John Faso, a former New York Republican Congressman, joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Monday night to discuss the new congressional lines.
"New York state has more competitive congressional districts than any other state in the nation. And now the Democrats want to undo that. They want a chance to rig the lines in their favor. And that's really unfortunate. If we want to reduce political polarization in the country, one way to do that is to have fair redistricting," Faso said.
Faso, a Massapequa native, was involved in last year's court battle over the lines.
