While the city’s economy has largely recovered from the pandemic, there are still plenty of New Yorkers who can’t say they have experienced the same.

The overall unemployment rate has dropped, but it remains at around 12% for Black New Yorkers, which is significantly higher than the over 1% rate white New Yorkers face.

And in the city’s public housing, Black men are more likely to be unemployed than any other group of residents.

That’s all according to a new study by the group Community Service Society, looking into unemployment among public housing residents, before, during and after the pandemic.

The report reveals the city’s public housing authority has a lot of work left to do to ensure all its residents get a chance to improve their prospects.

Iziah Thompson, a senior policy analyst with CSS and author of the report, joined Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Monday to break down some of his findings.

“What we wanted to see was because NYCHA has so much programming and so much training, and even policies that require it to, sort of, procreate self-sufficiency among its residents, we wanted to see how those programs were working and what could be done better,” Thompson said.
